  • Downconvert HD to SD via one FCP to another?

    Dear Cows

Has anybody tried anything like this?
I have a FCP system with BM Decklink HD Pro (Edit1) and I don’t have an SP Deck that I could use to take advantage of the BM’s hardward HD to SD conversion capability.

Here’s what I’d like to do. Buy a SD/SDI BM I/O card for my second mac pro and use this second machine (edit2) to record the downconverted HD->SD signal that’s coming out of Edit1.

So the bottom line… is there any reason why one FCP (with SDI I/O card) can’t record the SDI output from another FCP ???

looking forward to the answers on this one!
    cheers
    Llewelyn

    absolutely this is possible.

I’ve done it 3 or 4 times and did one just last week.

it was 720P downconverted from fcp through an aja kona-lhe over SD-SDI
to my multibridge extreme, capturing it on the other side of the building.

one word of caution, the black-magic cards only hardware down convert
from 1080. they don’t do 720P at least last time I checked. and the 1080
downconvert is really not that great…image is washed out and a little soft.
