  • Downconvert Capture from HD1200a Deck Problem

    Hello,

I’ve hit a snag. I’m trying to import some footage that was shot at 1080i30 on DVCPROHD as 15:1s to match the other captured footage of the project.

I’m using an HD1200a deck and I’ve changed the DIF SPEED to S100 output and DIF OUT to HD->DV (menu items 890 and 894).

    I’m connected via firewire.

Avid, when in a 30i project, will not recognize a video signal (and it’s driving me crazy that I can’t figure this out!).

If anyone has advice for the piece of the puzzle I’m missing, I’d much appreciate it.

    Here is more info:
When I turn those settings off, I am able to capture in a 1080 project.
When those settings are one, I am able to capture in FCP at SD so I know the downconvert is happening.

I also have a Kona card, but Avid doesn’t seem to recognize the SDI signal if I send SD to it and change the AJA Control settings to 30i.

Finally, I have a Mojo. Not sure if that is the missing piece of the puzzle here, but I’ve also tried connecting through that.

    Thanks for the help!

For anyone who goes searching for something that brings this post up:

I could not get Avid capture to work with a down-converted signal through the deck’s Firewire port.

The solution is to use the Mojo. Mojo Firewire “host” to the computer. Deck settings need to be at S100 DIF RATE (Menu 880), but not with downconverted signal (Menu 894). That was the main problem.

Next problem was with external sync ref, I managed to find a blackburst box here at the office, which got rid of that issue.

Best of luck to the next one out there.
