    Hello,
I have been working in XDCAM EX 1080p24 VBR and I am trying to do some research on down-converting to SD 29.97.
Some background- I am working in FCP 6.0.5. My clip and sequence settings are 1920×1080, 23.98fps, XDCAM EX 1080p24 (35 Mb/s VBR). I am trying to down-convert to Digi-Beta through my KONA card, and am not having any luck at all. I have run tests and was able to do this before. Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Mike

downconversions need to be set in the Kona Control panel, not from within FCP.

Leave your timeline alone- just set the secondary output to be 525 29.97 and all should work fine.

I keep trying that and all I am getting is green static. The XDCAM settings in FCP have “Non-controllable device” as their standard setting. I’ve changed it to “AJA Kona LH: 29.97 Sony VTR A”. Then in the Kona panel my primary setting is 1080sf23.98 and all my secondaries are set to 52529.97. My Gen Lock is set to “Freerun” and I get nothing but green static.

One thing I’ve noticed is when I open “Edit to Tape” and then switch out to the Kona panel the primary format has changed to 1080i29.97.
