I’m using JVC’s BR-HD50U deck to import footage into FCP via Firewire. The footage is HD, and I can’t get it to down convert to SD via firewire. I’ve tried the IEEE 1395 on the deck in both the HD and DV positions, with no luck. It seems that if the tape is HD, the switch must be on HD to send the signal through the firewire. The deck down converts just fine via the component, and Y/C outputs.

I need to import HD dailies in the field to a laptop, and was hoping to down convert. Please help!

HDV and DV have the same data rate…3.6 MB/s…so really there is no need to down convert. HDV takes up the same amount of space as DV.

I own one and I don’t think it does downconversion over firewire which seems a bit odd.

You’d have to go through the other outputs and feed it through a analog/DV converter to do that like the Canopus 110.
