    Hi there,

I have a project now to be shoot double system (digibeta with DAT sound). I’ve been working double system for years with the avid, doing subclips and linking them in groupclips.

My question is, how can this be done on final cut pro 5, since I cannot find anything close enough. It is my understanding that several features have gone this route, but I hope there’s some better option that manually resync and exporting as a new clip, as was done with Cold Mountain. What is the preferred workflow/method nowadays?.

    Thanks.

    Jose

Couldn’t you simply sync the audio and video in a timeline, then link the clips as a pair or even a stereo pair, then drag the clip back to the bin?

You could also simply use the sequence itself as a clip.

Two ideas that don’t exist on avid.

There’s a whole chapter about the workflow in the FCP5 manual. Look up Volume 2, Chapter 3 entitled “Merging Clips From Dual System Video and Audio”.

merging clips is surprisingly easy( except for murphey’s law situations, than well, it’s murphey’s law and finalcut is notorius for, well, being screwy) any ways, it was one of the first things i ever learned in finalcut and i was surprised how simple it was, youll pick it up in a snap!

    i sync in the timeline,
breaking down into slates at the same time, if necessary
then LINK (select pic & audio and Apple L)
then RETURN to open into viewer,
then Apple U to make into a SUBCLIP.

i wrote up instructions for the film school i worked at last year.
rather specific to the way things were done there,
but i can e-mail you the PDF if you want.

    cheers,
    nick
