Thought I’d check with you guys to see if any of you might have an answer to this question in After Effects:

Is it possible to have a solid layer (with 3d enabled) have a different color on each side of it, as in if i were to flip it or have a camera pan around either side would be a different color? Or even, having a raster image with a different image on each side?

I tried many things but the only solution I could find would be having 2 layers back to back and having them both parented on a null layer and doing all the manipulation of the null layer… is there another way to do this without having to create 3 layers?

[Sebastien Mouttet] “is there another way to do this without having to create 3 layers?”

You could do it using 2 layers by skipping the null and parenting the front layer to the back layer.

Here is a cool expression by Dan Ebberts that will make a layer invisible when facing away from the
    camera.

Shatter can also apply a second layer as a texture in the back.

Forces must of course be set to (0). The cool thing with Shatter is that you can also give a depth to your layer so it doesn’t totally disappear when oriented to 90 degrees.

    Salut.
