OK, I’ve read the manual on this, but I want to double check before I do anything. I’ve got over 436 GB of uncompressed 8-bit footage (BetaSP via Kona) onto a 750 GB SATA drive. Now, playback is fine, even at double speed, but scrubbing is choppy, and I can tell this multi-camera edit is going to drag if i can’t scrub a bit. My idea is to use Media Manager to “Recompress” the footage to DV and “Duplicate” the project. This will allow me a lot more freedom and flexibility in editing (not to mention speed). The thing is, I want to keep the Uncompressed 8-bit footage as well, so that when I’m ready for final layback, I can essentially “reconnect” to the 8-bit footage, in a sequence with the appropriate setup. Does this make sense, and am I doing it right?

    Steps:
    • Selecting the Footage Bin, and right-clicking to get Media Manager
    • Under Media, I select “Recompress”
    • Recompress media using: AJA Kona LH(e): 525 29.97 8 bit
    • Include Master clips outside selection IS checked
    • Based media file names off exsisting
    • Project: Duplicate selected items and place into new project IS checked
    • Include non-active multiclip angles IS checked.

Thanks for you help on this!

Well, everything seems O.K. but the codec.
It wouldn’t make sense to recompress 8Bit to 8Bit, would it? 🙂
I wrote a step by step instruction on how to use the MediaManager for something like this just an hour ago in this thread:

    So you can doublecheck!
