I have this project that was working perfectly, with a couple of sequences and 10 digitized mini-dv tapes. Nothing fancy…

    It was working perfectly.

This morning I did the Pro Aplications Update 4.0.2, the last one available. That is the only thing I

I ran the update the day it came out on two systems. A MacBook Pro, and an intel 8 core. Neither computer reacted to this update like you are describing. I’d tend to think then it’s not the update in and of itself.

Have you repaired permissions? More about your setup might be good to post.

This is not the best place to speak so harshly about Final Cut.

Yes, every software has its problems, I edited on an AVID for many years, and they were never without issues. Many people have utilized the same upgrade that you have without any problems. Please don’t judge FCP and Apple for what will probably in the end be a minor bump in the road.

Did you repair permissions BEFORE you upgraded, and again AFTER?
This is the recommended procedure when doing ANY major upgrading to a mac.

Do you get the same results on other projects or new ones?
One thing you can try is to create a new project and copy/paste everything into it.
It sounds as if you have corruption somewhere, maybe the project itself.

The same OP has the same rant running over at apple.com. Eventual solution was to reinstall FCP, or so he says.

We’ve run the update on four Macs. No issues so far but neither of out Motion Macs got the promised reactivation of the nudge keyboard feature in Motion.

    Flavio,

No one likes to have their system stopped in its tracks by an update that automatically comes over the Internet from the good folks at Apple. And, unfortunately its happened to just about everyone at one time or another. It should never happen, and you have every right to be pissed-off, however, since this has happened to just about everyone, there’s no excuse for not having a working clone of your system drive handy at all times. Its not an option…

    I agree about the ranting… BUT….

Flavio is right about the issues that have now surfaced after the Pro Apps update. Our systems have become unstable and all around “freaky” since this update.

Seems like the update fixed issues that were very important but at the same time made our systems very flaky.

Let me say that it was our decision to update the software after experiencing the issues that the Pro Apps update was supposed to fix. Yes, we always clone our drives before any major updates. The the fixes were more important to us. Being able to use ProRes422 on our g5 system was very important. Before the update, the G5 would crash trying to play ProRes422.

These are the risks we have to take from time to time. And sometimes we just need to vent our frustrations on those who may have experienced the same things.
