For those who like to archive onto barebone sata drives using docking stations, this is how I store my 1T drives (cloned) 2 per old umatic tape boxes

    … just a little cutting is required…

If you think that a Umatic tape could store only 60 mins of crappy vision how much could it store on 2 terra’s?

Maybe one day you can get these in Ikea!!!

What would I do without the ‘UNDO’ button!!!!

I still have a Umatic SP deck in my garage, low hours too. Someday maybe Tom Petty will drive up and pull the plastic off it and wonder what it does.

Great idea! I have been using some Araven storage trays for keeping barebone sata drives, but they seem to have stopped making them, and now I have a whole lot un-boxed. Any other ideas out there for cheap and easy storage of drives? I don’t have any old Umatics hanging around and the MII cases don’t fit 🙂

I have actually used my Umatic SP twice this year. Once for some vintage ski footage a client brought in and once to pull some old footage I got 25 years ago about a construction project.

I was amazed it still works. And the tapes were OK too. I wonder if bluray players and discs will be any good in 2035. Personally I doubt it.

    Progress.

I spent years working as a shooter for ESPN Speedworld. If I supplied my own tapes, they gave them back to me after they cut the show (how very strange). I have years of 3/4 tapes and we’re transferring all of it to DVD.
