Hi everyone. I,m looking for away to simulate “dolly zoom” in AE, but not just on an object in the middle of the shot but on anything. EG: The Lord of the Rings scene (1st movie) in the forest path just before the dark rider came and the hobbits hid under the tree.

    Thanks in advance.

That’s a “Hitchcock zoom.” Dolly the camera back, while zooming in.

I love Wiki for this kind of stuff:

The effect was first developed by Irmin Roberts, a Paramount second-unit cameraman, and was famously used by Alfred Hitchcock in his film Vertigo.

I remember this used with great affect in “JAWS” on the beach, and of course “GOODFELLAS” in the diner.

Thanks for the references guys, but the effect has to be done with objects that are closer to the camera than the background, like a 3d scene. Can it be done with just the background or with a still picture in AE, like in the LOR scene???
    Thanks again.

[Kevin Depth] “Can it be done with just the background or with a still picture in AE,”

    Well, sure.
But you have to place the objects relative to each other so the camera and lens moves accomplish something interesting. IN the case of a still image, you usually need to pull something out of the still or, much easier, use an element from a similar image that is placed in the foreground so it moves as the parallax changes.
