Dolby License Fee
I contacted Dolby and they gave me a list of their license fees for exhibition of a digital video master (in my case HDCAM) with a Dolby-E and LTRT mix. Is there any way to encode a 5.1 mix for festival exhibition that doesn’t require a Dolby license? I’d rather not mess with AC3 encoding because of the loss of quality. Thanks.

Tough call. There the Holophone ncode box that runs at mic level. It’s a 5.1 box but you don’t get Dolby E.

There might be some Dolby E solutions here:
