We received a program for air recently and it is file based. It is a QuickTime with a 5.1 surround mix. For air we need Dolby E encoding. I sent the audio to our ProTools person as they have a plug-in for the encoding and output four audio channels (Channels 1 & 2 stereo LR and Channels 3 & 4 are the Dolby E data tracks). I added the audio to the video on a timeline and output the QT to drop into our air server.

However, the Dolby E data tracks are not recognized so we can’t air the surround mix. Is their a way in FCP to output as a QT that will preserve the Dolby E data for air?

Only thing I can think of is perhaps your timeline is set for 16-bit audio. The Dolby E stream is 20-bit, so only a 24-bit timeline would preserve the stream intact.

Thanks Mark, I will give that a try, and yes it was set for 16 bit.

That did the trick! Changed the FCP audio settings to 24-bit and problem solved.
