    Hi,

I need a bit of help figuring something out. I’m using AE$ and I grabbed one of the Text Animations for a project I’m doing. I set the composite up and I like what I see so I render it.

Once rendered I am copying to CD and then using with Vegas Studio (a friends system).

Here’s the problem: no matter what I’ve tried I cannot seem to figure out how to make the background transparent so that ONLY the WORDS (with motion) will should WITHOUT the black or white background color showing.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks…

You just have to render to a format that supports alpha channel such as a QuickTime movie and select “RGB + Alpha” in the “channel” settings of your AE output module. Before rendering, toggle the “Transparency Grid” button at the bottom of your AE comp viewer (the checkerboard icon) to make sure you don’t have a solid or something else behind your text that will block your alpha channel.

[Dave Johnson] “You just have to render to a format that supports alpha channel such as a QuickTime movie”

There are many QuickTime codecs. You’ll need to select one that supports alpha. Animation is the usual suspect. You can also export as an image sequence (PNG or PSD would work).

The easiest way to get a lossless render with alpha would be to “Pre-Render” your composition. With the composition selected go to Composition > Pre-render… and it will add the composition to your render queue with the proper settings.
