Doing a NTSC DVD in PALand. What ir IRE black level?
I posted this on the edit forum without response. I’ve just had a PAL master converted to NTSC DVCPRO50 for authoring a NTSC DVD.
The transfer was great but I notice the picture is a little “bright”. Is this 7.5 blahdyblah NTSC black level thing. When I crush the blacks it looks fine. Do I have to do any adjustments to the black level on the encode to NTSC MPEG-2. or does it auto correct when playing on a DVD player in the States?

You’ll need to adjust blacks before your encode. Do you have a waveform? Is this on a DVCPRO50 Tape?

Yes it’s on NTSC DVCPRO50 tape. I do have a tubed waveform monitor, but I’m not reall expert with it. I usually use to make sure my video levels SP don’t go illegal. Should I crush the blacks as I digitize?

I’d say yes..if you don’t have a scop[e then go with what looks good to yours/client’s eye.
