When watching some cool music videos, I can see lots of effects going on. Does that mean everthing was done on AE instead of Premiere (or other NLEs)? I’d like to make a 45 minute video using AE only. No exporting to Premiere’s timeline. What do guys normally do? Do you think I’ll lose my sanity doing that?

    Yes. Yes you will.

AE is not an editing application. You can edit things together, but it doesn’t have editing tools like an NLE. And AE doesn’t have a real-time playback engine, which will drive you nuts when you want to play back a five minute sequence to see how it’s coming together.

Do your cut in Premiere or whatever editing app you do. Send individual clips (or groups of clips if they have similar needs) over to AE for effects, then bring them back. If you have Adobe Production Studio, you have the new Dynamic Link feature, which makes this workflow much more flexible.

i have similar problem… but i dont have the production studio neither the dynamic link. should i render it in AE as a windows movie (in uncompressed mode) and bring the finished video clip to Premiere? that will consume much time.

That’s really your only option is to render out of AE and bring it into Premiere. Make sure you render a file that matches your project settings in Premiere (for example, if you’re using DV settings in Premiere, use the DV settings or presets in AE).
