Okay, so I’m attempting to do the classic dog head on a human body trick.

Here’s what I’ve got so far:

The body itself will be a live action human. I plan on painting there faces green. I shall then key out there face and do a junk matte around their hair

Once I’ve filmed the live action in-store shots, I’ll film the dogs in a studio against a screen.

The dog will be wearing a dress shirt and tie (whatever apparel that matches the live footage).

I’ll have the live action .stuff on a monitor so that we can match the angle as closely as possible.

I plan on using the actor

The biggest headache I can see will be getting the join to match up. I think you are in for some rotoscoping even with painting people green.

Make sure you film background plates on location, as some times the dog’s head won’t completely cover the humans. Instead of junk matting the hair, have you considered getting some green swim caps or balaclavas, that way you might not even need to paint the face?

I like the shirts and collars idea, you may be able to hide the join with a feathered mask. Good luck and I’d love to see how this turns out.

CAme across this on Syntheyes site. Its more of a 3D/matchmove solution, but it might give you some ideas…

This is a good tutorial using XSI and a camera projection technique.

There’s a clip in my reel about half way through that uses this technique.

good luck, and I’d love to see the process.
