    Hi all,

I have a simple scene consisting of a few planes with footage of blue screen talent mapped onto them. I’m trying to render my scene with depth of field.
Right now I have great depth of field for the other objects in the scene, but through the area of the plane that is transparent it’s not happening.

I see from the manual that it’s actually not possible to combine both depth of field effects and material transparency. Is there any work around to this or another technique ? I have been experimenting with multi-pass, but still no luck.

    Cheers,
    Andy

There’s a plugin called ZBlur that’s supposedly able to avoid this problem. I don’t have it but I hear only good things about it. https://www.3dattack.net/shop/index.php?plugin=5

Otherwise you would have to do it in post, and that would involve rendering a separate depth pass without your transparent objects hidden. Even then it would be hard to deal with reflections on transparent objects.
