  • Does videohub work with Adrenalin

We are moving our studio to a new building so I am looking at ways to centralize storage and decks.
One way I was researching was linking everything through the Decklink Videohub with some kind of shared storage system.
We currently have the Avid Adrenalin system and 2 Premiere based rooms.
A salesman at editshare didn’t think the Adrenalin would work with this system.

    Hi,

Videohub is just an HD/SD-SDI video router so I don’t why it will not be compatible.

It will help centralise decks but won’t help you with centralising your storage.

That was my thinking as well. But someone said they would test it out for me. If anyone else has any wisdom or first hand experiance, good or bad, about the videohub I’d love to hear it.

The Blackmagic Videohub is an HD-SDI/SDI router, that is sold at a very aggresive (low) price. As you may know, AVID does not make a video router (neither does AJA or any other capture card manufacturer). Why would you question this ?

You can purchase HD-SDI routers from countless companies, that will all do the same job as the Videohub – companies like Sierra Video, Pesa, Leitch, Miranda, Evertz, and countless others, but they will ALL be dramatically more money than the Blackmagic Videohub. Exactly what kind of “approval” are you looking for ? Do you want AVID to certify the Blackmagic Videohub for use with it’s products ?
AVID would not certify Leitch or Grass Valley or NVision (which are the most expensive routers), so why on earth would they certify Blackmagic. If you are on a budget, you can’t beat this product.

The fact is I didn’t question it at all until, as I mentioned, a salesman from editshare, who said he used to be an Avid tech, said it might not work.
I couldn’t think of a reason it wouldn’t but well, when it comes to Avid, you never know.
