Offbeat question. If I leave my computer with a Vegas session on it for an hour or so then come back to continue editing, it takes a while to “wake up”. Not a real bother, but it doesn’t happen with other programs on the same computer. (All power saving and power-down settings are turned off.)
As I say, it isn’t a bother.. I’m just curious.

If Vegas looses focus, it will release all of the media that it has so that you can work on that media in another program. When Vegas regains focus, it goes out and loads that media again in case you’ve made any changes. This is the default behavior and on a well configured computer should not be noticeable unless you have a huge amount of files in your project.

If you want to change this behavior, go to Options | Preferences | General and uncheck [ ] Close media files when not the active application. This will cause Vegas to keep the files locked so that no other applications can change them and it won’t need to re-open them when it looses and regains focus.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. The computer has 6600 quad processor, 8gb RAM, 5 x HD with 2 joined in raid 0. Total 4Tb. All HDs are standard 7200 spin, and not green. Windows 7 pro and Vegas Pro 10d. Haven’t loaded 10e as all is fine with 10d, unless someone tells me otherwise.
The delay wasn’t huge, just 15 secs or less, but it intrigued me. John has hit the nail on the head I think.
