Does Vegas reencode?
I am using a Canopus ADVC110 DV device to capture analog video. When you use Vegas 8.0b’s DV Capture tool, does it re-encode the firewire signal or just save the bits as they come in as is? The ADVC alrady encodes it, however from what I understand some programs re-encode it again with their own codec.

As you know, the Canopus simply converts the signal from analog to digital.
What happens to it after that is up to the software being used.
Vegas (and, as far as I know, no other NLE) does anything to the signal until you render it out in the format of your choice. -
It just takes the incoming data and puts an AVI wrapper on it. It doesn’t reencode.
