  • Does the analog to SDI mini-converter upconvert?

Posted by Joel Bialek on November 21, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I’m trying to engineer a new video system and am looking at BMD to fit the bill. I’m planning on using an ATEM 1M/E, but I want to be able to get an SD DVD player into the switcher while still maintaining a 1080i program output.

Would the Analog to SDI converter do this for me? Or do I need to use a combination of the Analog and the Up/Down/Cross converter?

    Thanks ahead of time.

you need both. Analog to SDI to convert to SDI 525 NTSC, and the “up converter” to go from SD-SDI to HD-SDI.

What about delay when using the upconvertor?

I use both inline often, when converting from a DVD-player to HD-SDI. SDI monitor patched at first conversion, and at second up convert. I have not noticed a delay… So I guess it would be better to say the delay, if any, is not noticeable.
In the world of individual frames, this answer may not be acceptable.

Wouldn’t it be easier to use the Component input of the ATEM 1/ME?
You should just need a DVD player cable of upscaling to the same format you run your system.
