  • Does re-rendering cause loss of quality?

I have video in Vegas that I want to edit in pieces.

If I render each piece, and then piece together later with nothing more than butting the pieces together, or perhaps adding a crossfade between sceens, will the video portions (excluding any crossfades between sceens) contain the same quality? Or is each frame re-rendered, and therefore lossy compressed again? Or does it just pass frames with no changes as they were before?

Only the portions that have FX applied to them will be re-rendered.
The codec in Vegas is very good though so the quality loss will be minimal.
You could use nested vegs (Vegas 6 and newer) and avoid this compression completely.

… assuming the format is DV.
