  • Does Premiere Pro make use of Intel’s hyperthreading, dual core cpu’s or 64b bit architecture

I’m currently upgrading my NLE to support HD/HDV, Avid Express Pro, Premiere Pro & Blackmagic’s Multibridge Extreme (when it comes out).
I am looking to purchase an Intel based i955 motherboard (ASUS),not the Xeon/Opteron base systems.

The ASUS board can take a range of Intel P4 processors i.e.

    Intel 840 Extreme ~ 3.2Ghz Dual core / hyperthreaded
Intel 840 Standard ~ 3.2Ghz Dual core / no hyperthreading
    Intel n/a Extreme ~ 3.7Ghz Single core / hyperthreaded /1024Mhz FSB
    Intel 670 Standard ~ 3.8Ghz Single core / hyperthreaded
    etc, etc.

In regards to Premiere Pro, do I buy a fast single core or slower dual core processor for this motherboard?

Can Premiere Pro make use of dual core Intel processors and/or hyperthreading?

And finally does PP take advantage of WinXP 64bit OS?

I know it a bit techie but any answers appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Dave Farland

[David Farland] “Can Premiere Pro make use of dual core Intel processors and/or hyperthreading?”

Dual core is basically the same as two single processors, HT is a bit different, enhanced theading.
Ppro can take advantage of both, but only for algorithms written to use either/or both, not all program functions benifit from dual processors or hyperthreading, so they are not programed to use those functions.
Ppro is not 64bit at this time.
