Hi, Im a long time FCP user who is now learning about LiveType and Motion via the recent FC Studio upgrade. Does Motion 2 make LiveType obsolete? I have decided to start doing tutorials of Motion 2 first. Should I even have to open LiveType?

Livetype does come with some great backgrounds – but Motion gives you much more realtime and joy.

They’re two different apps with two different uses. LiveType is a titling tool and is very quick to create animated titles. Motion is a full compositing tool which does a lot more than just animated type. Depending on what you’re doing, you’ll use both apps.

Is LiveType still in active development?

    Yup.

They just released LiveType 2.0 with Final Cut Studio.

Right Walter, that is obvious. Gee, you sound like an Apple rep today 😉 But at first, and even second glance, it looks like all of the same tools and live fonts are in Motion 2.

What can LiveType do that Motion cannot (besides those cool backgrounds)? It sounds like not much. I think I will spend more time learning Motion and put LiveType on the back burner.

live type has more interactive control over the “live” aspect of the type. I ran into this last week trying to do a live type effect in MOTION2. After struggling with it for 30 minutes, I exported the background and opened LIVE TYPE and accomplished what i wanted in under 2 minutes.
