  • Does MC v. 2.8.3 run on Leopard 10.5.3?

    Hello,

I have just upgraded from Xpress Pro to Media Composer. I’m currently running MAC OS 10.5.3 on my Macbook Pro (2.4 GHz). My question is, do I have to upgrade to MC 3.0 to be able to run Media Composer on the Leopard OS, or can I just stay with v. 2.8.3? I did not want to start this process (as of right now I haven’t even updated the dongle) without knowing that answer first. Also, if I’m over complicating this please let me know but this is what I’m under the impression I need to do.

I got the whole box. I’m gonna:

    1. Install Media COmposer (it came with v. 2.8)
2.connect the dongle and go therough the dongle update process.

Is this right, or do I need to first go to the avid site, download v. 3.0 AND THEN update the dongle? Just wanna make sure I do this in the right order.

You need v3 to run on Leopard 10.5.3. There is also a v3.0.1 that runs on Tiger. When you upgrade, you will get the MC installer as well as an updater file for the dongle. Instructions are with the installer Read Me files. Basic steps will be to uninstall all previous versions of Media Composer and components, install new MC, then update the dongle.

Next dumb question. I did the $495 upgrade to MC from Xpress in late May. If I had upgraded in June AFTER 3.0 had come out, would I have received 3.0 at the same $495 price? And as a result of what I have done do I now have to pay the add’l $295 to get v. 3.0? Thanks for your quick response, I’d ask AVID but they are not open on weekends. And I now at least know, I should at wait for 3.0 to install MC.

I can’t help you there… I don’t really pay attention to all the sales & support side of things. Sorry.

The MC v3 upgrade was free to those who purchased the AXP to MC upgrade after March 17, 2008 and before the release of MC 3 (mid June). This offer recently expired.

I think the offer was to expire July 15th, and was taken from the site July 28th.

Contact Marianna at Avid, or warranty@avid.com they will be able to tell you if the 2.8 to 3.0 upgrade is still available, and how, for those who upgraded to Media Composer before 3.0
