    Hi everyone.

We’re considering buying a set of Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 mainly for playback-use in our University.

It would be in use for reviewing projects from our students:

    # when we get the dailies from the lab/dailies system (dnxhd 120/185x) wrapped as qt and/or mxf.
    # reviewing roughcuts edited in avid mc6.5 as qt dnxhd 36/120/185x

In the system specs it says that the dnxhd codec is supported.

my question here: does Hyperdeck Shuttle 2 support all dnxhd codecs – 36 unitl 185x – for playback?

    cheers

    Hi Christoph,

The HyperDeck series support only the DNxHD 220x codec in either Quicktime or mxf wrappers. I am not aware of any plans to support other DNxHD codecs at this time.

If they had a lower data rate they might sell to many of them to TV stations and people that would love to store more data. TV stations air at MPEG2 under 36 Meg’s so they don’t mind recording at that low rate. This to me baffles me why they don’t at least implement one agressive codec.

DNxHD at 36mbps and MPEG–2 at 36mbps ate COMPLETELY different animals.

One is an Intraframe compressed codec, one is Interframe. BIG difference!
