6 hour live event? I’d have an assistant on hand, 3-5 P2 cards and a laptop and hard drive offload station. When one card fills up, yank it, put in another one and skuttle off to offload the footage. It takes less time to offload than to record…especially at 24PN. But 4 cards would be a good backup.
My producer recorded his daughters piano recital for 1.5 hours and the all fit on the 10 P2 cards he had. And when he imported them they all matched up perfectly in the timeline…not one lost frame. I hear that the Firestore has problems with long continuous takes.

June 28, 2006 at 3:00 pmIf it’s a stationary shoot… would it be worth going directly into a laptop with an external hard drive?

June 28, 2006 at 5:27 pmI’d avoid that. What if the drive fails? What if the capture process stops for some reason?
Plus you really cannot capture 6 hours at one time into FCP. No…this is not the way to go for many many reasons.

June 29, 2006 at 2:40 pmI can verify safely recording to a Mac laptop and external SATA drive (using a SATA PCMCIA card) for 2-hour blocks at a time with nary a hiccup in FCP 4.5…

June 29, 2006 at 5:15 pmHow about Avid/PPro 2.0 on PC side? Has any one tried it?
My concern with 8gb card is if there enough free time for assistance to dump the 8 GB card before two cards on camera are filled?

July 8, 2006 at 10:46 pmOffload time with my Powerbook to an external firewire drive is about 5-6 minutes for an 8 gig card. Shooting 720 pn you’ll have 20 minutes of shooting time per card. So it gives you enough time to shoot continuously.

January 5, 2010 at 5:40 pmShane,
We use the component output on our camera to output an HD signal. Do you know if there is a cable that will transmit an SDI signal via the component jack on the camera (7 pin, snap-in)?
I’m specifically asking because I’m considering purchasing a TV Logic 7″ LCD monitor, and the Waveform and V-scope options will only work with an SDI signal.
Thanks for your time.
Phil
