Does having more and more extensions slow Vegas ?
Posted by Timothée Ferreol on May 29, 2015 at 2:03 pmHey,
Quick question,I was just wondering if having more and more plugin/extensions makes vegas slower at startup or during editing ? (I bet it does at start-up)
Thanks 😉

May 29, 2015 at 3:14 pmYes, extensions can slow down Vegas a little bit at startup (loading, initialization etc.).

May 29, 2015 at 9:06 pmI have found that Timeline Tools will slow down everything I do. I shut it down and sometimes restart to clear it and speed things up. I hope that helps.

May 29, 2015 at 10:06 pmThe absolute, microscopic, and admittedly somewhat anal answer to this question is yes, the more extensions you have the slower Vegas will function. Vegas extensions use what are called Event subscriptions (not to be mixed up with a Vegas Event… this is a programming event.) The main program initiates an event and any extension can subscribe to that event. Events include things like timeline changes, etc. Multiple extensions are all pretty much subscribing to the same events. For example if you move something on the timeline an “Event Changed” subscription will fire. Every extension that is subscribed to that event will then fire some code off. All that being said when dealing with programming thousands if not millions of calculations are required to notice anything. If, however, you have multiple extensions dealing with the same cumbersome Vegas actions you will notice it.
