The funny thing is that the FREE training/tutorial DVD of a couple of years ago was a fully-functioning version of the app, only with I/O and save disabled. It COULD be done. The downside, is that DS is very tightly integrated with the hardware, so if the HP isn’t tweaked correctly, it won’t work right.
Nevertheless, when you look at Axio, that boardset does essentially the same thing as Nitris for about 1/3 the cost. Of course, the Adrenaline BOB without HD card is about the same thing as the AJA Io, so we all know where Avid has been coming from.

April 25, 2007 at 1:08 pmi think i’d prefer to have a DS to an Axio…anyday…
i think the i/o that aja and blackmagic have are possibly superior to the adrenaline bob…but if avid gives that up…too much money down the drain!

Not saying that. You missed the point. I’m saying that the Axio boardest offers similar design and capabilities to the Nitris boardset.

“Well, they already dropped the Chrome card (Targa 3K?) on Liquid in favor of AJA Xena. Maybe that’s a trial balloon for MCSoft with an AJA card down the road. Customers would be far happier.

May 4, 2007 at 7:08 amMy brother was working on a DS Nitris a little over a year ago. He talked to Avid at an NAB about bug fixes a couple of years ago. He was told that money was being spent on other things and some of the big bugs (i.e. 3D DVE) would not be taken care of right away. He made the decision to move on to another system. In the past couple of years, I’ve heard about the political struggle between the DS folks and the Avid folks. Guess who won?
BTW, My first NLE was an Avid MC1000 with a NuBus ABVB. I still miss that thing. 🙂
