  • does C4D Net Render work on an airport wireless network

i get my internet connection on my G5/2.7 machine through a wireless router using Airport. I’m trying to find out how to set up the C4D Net Render with this setup.

For some reason i can’t get the network settings window to pop up when i’m running C4D Server and C4D Client, so i have to go in and manually change the client.ini and server.ini files. I just do this with Text Edit and save the changes, quit the apps and restart them. Anyone know why i can’t get the network settings window to pop up?

Regardless, when i start C4D Server, it says:

server started on <0.0.0.0:1080> at such and such time

Then in C4D Client it says:

    Client started on port 1800
    No server selected
Server not found at (such and such time)

I’m wondering why my ip address is saying 0.0.0.0, then the port number.

Usually it’s something like 192.168 something right?

Hope somone here knows what i’m talking about and can shed some light.

    Thanks in advance!

So to understand this: You set up your comp on a wireless router. Do you give it a manual IP or do you let the Router dynamically allocate it for you? But once your machine has an IP you load the C4D server and you show a 0.0.0.0 IP? Describe what you mean you can’t open network settings. You mean when you go to system prefs, the window just won’t open?

If set right you should be able to use wireless, however it will be considerably slower to move large files like video images over wireless than over ethernet.

Well, i have a G5 and a G4 machine. The G5 is using airport wireless. The G4 is hooked up with an ethernet cord. It’s interesting that you mentioned the speed of the network render and how ethernet vs. wireless affects it. I hadn’t thought about that. Anyways, i was able to last night at least get the C4D Server and Client Apps on my G5 to talk to eachother through the ip address i found in sys prefs. Now the question is – how do i get the client app to work on my G4. And will there be any issues with one computer being on wireless and the other being ethernet? I do have both computers receiving the same internet signal through the same wireless router. One just needs a cord to get internet (the G4 since it has no airport card).

    your thoughts?

No, in our office, all the desktops are Ethernet and all the laptops are wireless. They communicate fine. However your speed bottlenecks to what the wireless can give you. If I go between 2 G5’s I have a very fast transfer, but say from a G5 to a laptop, slow because wireless is involved.

I personally wouldn’t use the Airport as a router only as the wireless bridge. It’s not really a good or reliable router.

I would get a linksys router/4 port switch. Your DSL/Cable comes into that. It does the IP allocation. Then plug the airport into a port and your G4 into a port. In the base station settings, turn off the ‘dynamically allocate IP’ option. So the base station becomes a simple wireless transceiver.

Then for extra reliablitly, I would set the 2 comps to have manual IPs.

    Hey Chris,

I got it to work finally last night. My G4 is connected by Ethernet and my G5, where i have C4D server running is connected by Airport. It worked great with the two machines and it was a good idea to have the other computer connected by ethernet. Nice to have it all set up and running.

    Thanks for your input.
