  • Does bootcamp affect final cut systems?

Posted by Timothy Eng on August 29, 2008 at 7:37 am

    Hi All,

I was contemplating using bootcamp to install a copy of XP onto my new Mac Pro and was curious to see if this had any issues for us final cut users. Specifically with reference to crashing final cut pro apps.

I also own CS3 production suite and wouldn’t mind having Ultra on my system for keying in virtual sets as I do a lot of this work.

    Any thoughts are certainly welcome.

Bootcamp does not affect use of the ProApps, Mac OS X and Windows under Bootcamp can coexist on the same host without any issues whatsoever.

[Andy Mees] “Bootcamp does not affect use of the ProApps, Mac OS X and Windows under Bootcamp can coexist on the same host without any issues whatsoever.”

Not without any issues. On our iMac, for example, we cannot use the DVD Burner at all in Windows XP. We tried making a backup CD, but the system will not recognize the burner at all. I’ve heard of similar issues with hardware when running Windows on a Mac that’s something you’ll need to check in to if you will require the use of hardware in Windows.

Fair point Walter … yes there could conceivably be issues with the PC installation itself under Bootcamp, but I stand by the point that the presence of Bootcamp on one’s system will not affect the use of the ProApps (or any apps) under Mac OS X

I agree. We have no problems here, and we put it on a separate
    drive just to be careful.

Ditto that, I dedicated a separate drive on my Mac Pro for that XP install-

Thanks for you input guys. I’m glad to hear nobody seems to have any huge issues with bootcamp. Losing the dvd drive hardware would probably present a bit of an issue (after all how am I going to install ultra if I can’t read the disc?) but as long as it doesn’t after the final cut pro apps I’m happy to proceed.

Kind regards to all for their input.
