Does AfterEffects Linking and referencing across the server Slow down the server dramatically comparing to using sequences?

Hi I’m like many AfterEffects users LOVE using and linking Quicktime in Aftereffects, and I’ve been do “linking and referencing QT across the server” that in day to day bases at my old work place, recently I’ve moved to this other company, so far it has been couple of months and at the last couple of weeks, server seems to be droping out and slowing down from time to time, and all of the sudden the IT guy said is Linking the Quicktime that slow down the server and we should be using tiffs Sequences, and if use Sequences instead it will solve the problem? I’m just wondering if there are any fact to it? Since it take out a lot of works to convert all of our QT in to Sequences and it is harder to preview it, and I worked in other motion graphics companies which links QTs in AfterEffects all the time and it seems fine.

If any one know any thing about it and have some data figures, please let me know, because I would like to keep using QT for most cases. THANKS
