Does AE 6.5 support 24F?
Posted by Derek Green on November 27, 2007 at 10:54 pmWhen I import footage (ie like capture scratch files from FCP) into AE 6.5 all I get are black files. How can I get around this?

November 28, 2007 at 6:23 pmI captured my footage using a different FCP 6 mac station. Its HDV 1080 24p. I’m trying to bring in the footage to my Mac ver 10.4.1, Dual 2.3ghz powerpc g5 w/ATI Radeon 9650. Not only can I not bring the footage into AE 6.5, but I cannot play the files on quicktime.
Thanks again.

November 28, 2007 at 7:49 pmi would recommend exporting the hdv from the fcp mac to another codec or image sequence, as dave mentioned. if you have the drive space, apple’s lossless animation or a png sequence would be good options, if you don’t have the drive space, high quality (90-100%) photo-jpeg compression offers very good image quality with minimal loss from hdv and would be worth checking out.
if you’re set on working with hdv, the problem may just be that you don’t have the hdv codec on your mac. if the fcp6 mac station is a g5 (or any powerpc proc.) you can probably just copy the hdv codec from that stations library/quicktime directory to your station’s library/quicktime directory to read the hdv footage. if the fcp mac is an intel-mac, the installed codec will probably not work on your g5, but you may be able to get it from the fcp install disk (i’ve heard of people just installing queue master from fcp studio to get the codecs that ship with fcp).
