I’m not sure if Adobe reads this stuff or not, but if we all band together and beg (squeaky wheel gets the grease remember) Adobe to add true 3d capabilities to After Effects do you think they’ll actually listen? The ability to bring in 3d models, like Photoshop Extended, is long overdue.

[caffeineandpixels] “I’m not sure if Adobe reads this stuff or not…”

If I count as Adobe, then… yes, Adobe reads this stuff.

[caffeineandpixels] “(squeaky wheel gets the grease remember)”

Actually, the wheel that fills out feature-request forms and surveys gets the grease.

Use the feature-request form to ask for new features or modified behavior.

Send email to aebugs@adobe.com to report bugs.

I posted a survey link a few months ago, too. That survey is now closed, but be sure to participate in the next one to make your voice heard.

There’s a survey on the Adobe site, where you can rank your preference of upcoming features.

Just make sure to select pro features like 3d import and improved media management, and NOT rook features like pre-built templates and tighter iMovie integration.

DOES anyone from Adobe ever pay attention to these forums???

[Kurt] “DOES anyone from Adobe ever pay attention to these forums???”

Let’s put it this way: MANY of the people who Adobe listens to quite a lot are both leaders and members of this forum. I could tell you more but then I’d have to kill you.

The survey that (I think) you’re referring to is now closed. We got a lot of good responses.

[Kurt] “DOES anyone from Adobe ever pay attention to these forums???”

    Ummm…. Helloooo.

Yes, we do. And we talk among ourselves about what we see on these forums, forward threads around, and otherwise consider what is said here. That said, the feature-request form and email to aebugs@adobe.com are the best, most direct, and most reliable ways of telling us what you want in After Effects (and what you think is wrong with it).

    Well, as long as we’re bugging you guys… (;

I made a couple of feature requests (using the proper form) regarding the Render Queue/adding items to the Render Queue that I’d really like to see implemented. Are you guys totally swamped with requests or are ALL of these feature requests reviewed? Are features considered solely on merit or on the number of requests?

I can guess at the answers to these questions, but I’m really interested in what the likelihood is that my request will be viewed/considered… we talkin’ 1 in 1,000,000 here? =)

Every feature request is reviewed, and the number of people who request each feature does contribute to its likelihood of being implemented.

“The ability to bring in 3d models, like Photoshop Extended, is long overdue. ”

That is possible already though Zaxwerks Pro Animator (perhaps Invigorator as well but I’m not sure). It allows you to import all sorts of models like .3DS for example and then fly cameras around them in After Effects.

I’d personally like to see some control over extrusion. Adobe should enable you to stretch things in Z-depth, thereby making them 3D and giving them depth.

Yeah *flame has had this since around 1996, called “bicubic” in thier world. I’d say thats a good example of a feature around 1000 AE artists have asked for, for years, that Adobe is still “considering”.

Right, but why is this a no-brainer? We shouldn’t have to rely on and have to purchase an outside app to do something that AE should have been able to do the day Photoshop could do it. If you’re going to give Photoshop the ability to bring in 3d models why wouldn’t you carry that thinking into a program that works along side it, meaning AE? Quite frankly, I just wish Adobe would buy Strata and bring the 3d and 2d worlds together into the Creative Suite Family. Strata is making it so easy to integrate Adobe products into the creation of 3d content I think that’s a no-brainer as well. Buy them, assimilate them, rule the world! (Insert evil laugh here.)
