Does Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 REALLY brings HD editing to the desktop as they claim?
Posted by James Lynch on August 4, 2005 at 12:27 amAfter purchasing a Sony Z1u I purchased Premiere Pro 1.5. They claim on their site that “Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 software brings HD editing to the desktop”.
The fact of the matter is that Pro 1.5 can not capture from my Sony Z1u. Ten seconds into capturing the image begins to break up. The only solution that has been recommended for this problem is for me to purchase a Cineform plug-in for $499! I downloaded Cineform’s trial version of Aspect HD and it in fact did capture my HD footage perfectly. I feel ripped off by Adobe! Has anyone looked into a class action suit against Adobe for false advertising?Derek Antonio serra replied 20 years, 9 months ago 7 Members · 14 Replies -

August 4, 2005 at 4:02 amv1.5.1 works just fine with HDV, but the machine it’s on can make a difference. What are your system specs?

August 4, 2005 at 1:27 pmJust get PPro 1.5.1 Update from Adobe website and you’ll have option to capture and edit in HDV (1.5.1 include special version of Cineform HD plugin).

August 4, 2005 at 2:52 pmMy FX1 and PPro 1.5.1 have worked perfectly together, since day one, without any need to weak the software/hardware. And I have not installed the “$499 Cineform plugin”.
In the hundreds of scenes that I have captured, I have only had two scenes that were pixilated. All I had to do was recature those two scenes.
Yes the Cineform plugin will improve performance, but for now, I’m OK.
I also suspect it is your hardware.

August 4, 2005 at 4:23 pmYou guys are lucky if it works for you. My PC is only 3GHz and I often have problems with capturing. So I use Cineform Aspect HD instead. That way I get a chance to capture M2T, review it, and only convert to Cineform AVI those files that I plan on using.

August 4, 2005 at 8:01 pmHi Steven,
What problems have you experienced? For me, PPro 1.5.1 captures fine, but you do have to wait at the end for the conversion to finish. No file integrity problems on this end though… (I have the Aspect HD plugin and that works faster, but 1.5.1 works…)

August 4, 2005 at 10:14 pmI originally thought I had dirty heads, or bad tapes, or something, because I would often get pixelization using 1.5.1
When I switched to doing it in two steps, the problem went away. I thought my PC was good enough, but I am suspicious of it now. Once I get a new PC I will try again, but a new PC is going to be hard to come by. I just bought this house in Florida on the golf course: https://www.stevengotz.com/florida.htm

August 4, 2005 at 10:55 pmThe PC I am using is a Pentium 4 3.2 with HT, 1 gig of Ram, 7200 drives. Where should I look for the problem if Premiere 1.5.1 pixilates on captures longer than 10 seconds?

August 5, 2005 at 4:09 amYou are a bit low on RAM. I would double it before I did anyhing else.

August 5, 2005 at 4:06 pmSteven, did you shoot the florida video from your previous post? If so did you shoot it on the sony hdv camera? the footage looks amazing. Im looking to get one and i have the same PC set up as the previous post and im wondering do you need 2 gigs of ram to get full functionality out of hdv footage?
also, ive heard of digitizing SD and then uprezzing to HD for the final online edit. Can this be done within the camera? As if you were to re-dig. the online footage.
Thanks
