Just wondering because despite activating properly a few weeks ago in my new Leopard install, on Friday my copy of Adobe Premium Production Bundle CS3, purchased in July 2007, now decided to “un-activate” itself and now it has an “invalid serial number.” Apparently the only thing the Customer Service folks can instruct me to do is fax a copy of my proof of purchase.

Funny thing is, I’ve been trying for three days now. Last count, 40 attempts. You can read all the hilarity in my blog if you really want to know the whole story.

But seriously, anyone know if Adobe has more than one fax machine in the entire company and what those fax numbers might be? Been using After Effects since 1995 I think (is that when they bought it from CoSA?) and now with a client walking in the door for a one week design session tomorrow, my legal copy of Adobe Production Premium Bundle CS3 is AWOL apparently until Adobe can receive a fax from me.

Is there any option to e-mail it? I emailed scans of my student status just the other week which they accepted fine. (Although that was to the UK Student Section of Adobe, so no idea if it’s an option open to you)

Still might be worth looking into (If you haven’t already).

[Paul Hennell] “Is there any option to e-mail it?”

I was told in no uncertain terms, “No.” You would think that would be easier.

you may have tried this already (i haven’t read your blog), but have you tried calling support and asking them to grab your fax off the fax machine?

of course the support rep and the fax machine are probably not in the same country….

If it would actually go through, I would gladly ask them. But it never went through.

Ironic in a sad way that Adobe of all companies doesn’t seem to be aware that a fax message is a scanned document open to manipulation just like a attached jpeg or pdf of the proof-of-purchase would be. I know there are myriads of jokes flying around the net about people needing documents on ‘real’ paper believing fax messages somehow magically can’t be forged, so far I’ve thought they were just web myths …

Hope this solves quickly for you.

So far I’ve gotten no more responses from Customer Service other than a useless email telling me my new case number and some steps to look at a FlexNet folder. But wasn’t instructed to actually do anything with it.

This is making me dread the day I run into this problem since ..

    1. Here in Sweden Adobe is mostly a PR department and the little contact I’ve had with their support I quickly noticed I know much more how their apps work than their staff.

    2. Faxes? What faxes? They are left on the IT graveyard here. Must have been more than 5 years since I used one. Hopefully my accountant have one gathering dust in a closet.

FWIW I made a clone using SuperDuper of my entire system drive to another internal drive before upgrading to Leopard and so far the AE installation on either drive hasn’t demanded to be re-activated. Maybe this can help in some way – at least in the future. But I probably jinxed this for myself just by mentioning it.

    cheers
