  • Does 32GB of Ram Decrease Performance for Resolve…?!

Posted by Ryan Brown on October 6, 2010 at 9:20 am

I was reading through the Configuration Guide and noticed that it says:
RAM: 6, 12 or 24 GB for memory
    optimization (not 8, 16 or 32 GB).

I recently upgraded my MacPro early 2008 to 32 GB of ram. Now it sounds like I can’t(or shouldn’t) use Resolve with 32 GB? What’s the reason for this? Does this only apply for later MacPros?

    Hi Ryan,

The preference for 6, 12 or 24 GB of RAM only applies to the 2009 and 2010 models of Mac Pro. Please download the latest DaVinci Resolve for Mac Configuration Guide and you’ll see that the Early 2008 Mac Pro series can use 8 GB or more RAM. In other words, 32 GB of RAM will be fantastic for your Early 2008 Mac Pro.

The October 2010 edition of this guide also provides some additional information specific to the Early 2008 Mac Pro.

    Luke-

Thanks for the reply! I just downloaded the configuration guide last night(Aug. 30th config. guide)and I see it has been updated(Oct. 6th config. guide). I now see the updated specs for the MacPro 2008 models! =)

The new updated configuration guide is very helpful!
