  • dodgy join on motion tile/CC sphere?

I’ve built (well adapted Andrew Kramer’s!) an earth which will spin in the centre of a big HD comp and when it rotates to a certain point you can see a really dodgy join. Now if this wasn’t being shown on a 10ft high screen I might get away with it! But I really need to get it seamless. I’m not sure what’s gone wrong here, because the two sides on the join look like they should match up, but they’re very slightly mis-aligned. I’ve tried tweaking the phase, but that will only match certain parts = other parts go out further.

Is this a problem with the source image, or the way the effect works? Any fixes anyone knows?

The source file and rendered image are linked below…

    Thanks for any advice.
    Jim.

Still, 1-to-2 aspect ratio of the layer to be wrapped around the sphere must have edges that will join seamlessly. Even the finest illustrations end up having issues because the joint is a single pixel-wide straight line.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Well I got the clouds from NASA, so I’d like to think they’re fairly accurate. Does someone mind using that source file on the link to make a sphere themselves and let me know if you get a join at your end? Trying to work out if it’s the image or the way I’ve set it up…

Dave – HD is sq pixels anyway. I just dragged the picce from project window onto new comp button and built it from there.

Sorry Dave, I should have been more specific..I am working in square pixels, the main host comp is 6720 x 784 pixels, but the comp I applied CC Sphere in was sq pixels and the comp was created by dragging the clouds pic onto new comp icon. Any HD footage I’m using is uncompressed 1080i/p.

All that said – even in the immediate comp that the CC sphere effect is in – you still see the tearing.

Any chance you could have a go at your end Dave? I’m tearing my hair out here! I tried feathering off the edges of the pic, but that just makes matters worse and wouldn’t work anyway as it’s got a motion tile applied aswell (as per A.Kramer’s earth project.)
