Documentation on DVX100B battery
Posted by Leo July on September 14, 2007 at 1:09 amI am looking for documentation from Panasonic (or the battery’s manufacturer if it isn’t Panasonic) on the 7.2V 5400mAh battery that comes with the DVX100B specifically addressing the question what the range of running times of that battery is when fully charged.
In other words what is optimal (or maximum) running time when using the viewfinder without the exterior LCD? What is the running time when only using the LCD all the time?
Panasonic tech support has been unable or unwilling to provide this documentation.

September 14, 2007 at 3:56 amThe DVX100 draws 18Watts and requires 7.9Volts (dc) – I’m not sure if just grabbing the DC voltage is correct. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
So,
18Watts / 7.9Volts = 2.28Amps = 2280 milli amps.
Then take battery mAh (milli amp hours) and divide by mA and voila. So a 5400mAh battery will last
5400/2280 = 2.37 hours = ~ 2 hours 22mins.
Anyways, it’s just a starter battery so I wouldn’t be there with the stopwatch trying to figure it out to the second. I’d go for the DVXuser batteries when you’re ready for longer use times.

September 14, 2007 at 9:07 amHi,
There must be something more to it Noah as the documentation on page 21 of the AG-DVX100B Operations Manual shows 330 minutes, 5.5 hours, without the LCD and 300 minutes, 5 hours, with the LCD. It doesn’t offer a figure for the situation if you, but my own experience tells me that the number drops to about 3 hours if both are on.
Good luck,
Jan

September 14, 2007 at 12:05 pmOne reason I posted this question was because I was shocked to discover that the 5400 battery only ran for about 2 hours with both viewfinder and LCD on.
I haven’t managed to turn off the viewfinder while the LCD is on and don’t know how.
I am not familiar with the DVXuser batteries. What are they? What do they cost? How long do they run?
Panasonic told me the 5400 is the largest they make for this camera.

That would be in the neigborhood of being correct.
[LeoJuly] “I haven’t managed to turn off the viewfinder while the LCD is on and don’t know how.”
It is a menu item, I believe under Display.
[LeoJuly] “I am not familiar with the DVXuser batteries. What are they? What do they cost? How long do they run? .”
Check our that website DVXUser.com all of that info is over there.
[LeoJuly] “Panasonic told me the 5400 is the largest they make for this camera.”
This is true, that is the largest battery that we make.
Best,
Jan

September 17, 2007 at 1:04 amI checked the DVXUser web site for batteries for the 100B and the only one I could find was a no-name battery, i.e. no manufacturer was identified.
