Graeme, you are correct. It’s been a while since I did my tests and I confused de-interlace with the upper levels of flicker filter. You are also correct that de-interlace renders faster than strobe of one and I’ll use that instead. (… sorry i can’t purchase your filters yet! ;

I’ve done this technique also, and have been very pleased with the results.

On the lower layer, set the deinterlace filter to “lower” and on the upper layer set it to upper. Reduce the upper layer to 50% opacity and then render.
