After Larry Jordan had already told us that he had seen the new version and it was a ‘Jaw Dropper’, do you think ‘sneak peek’ was a good idea? More so in light of last minute takeover of the supermeet kicking everyone else out.

The favorite line of every expert these days is(rightfully so)

“At this point of time I have more question than answers”

Besides making some of hysterical(As my dear friend Mark wud put it), some of us anxious & some slightly worried, what other purpose has this presentation served?

PS: This post is more of a question rather than opinion.

“The creative person wants to be a know-it-all. He wants to know about all kinds of things: ancient history, nineteenth-century mathematics, current manufacturing techniques, flower arranging, and hog futures. Because he never knows when these ideas might come together to form a new idea. It may happen six minutes later or six months, or six years down the road. But he has faith that it will happen.” — Carl Ally

Yes. I’d rather have more information than less. Even the “more questions than answers” thing sort of illustrates the point — before the sneak peek, nobody even knew what questions to ask about the next version of Final Cut. And it’s not like the skeptics weren’t already out in force.

The whole “Apple is mean for kicking everyone out” thing seems silly. It was a meeting of a Final Cut Pro user group. The biggest Final Cut Pro news in a decade takes precedence over other announcements. And the organizers could have always refused, if they hadn’t agreed with that.

You’ve both make some good points. Time seems to have mellowed you two somewhat.

Personally, I’ve never been a big fan of Apple’s secrecy doctrine as it pertains to the Pro Apps; I think it erodes user confidence, and makes it difficult for businesses to make necessary projections and to determine their future workflows.

In this case, though Apple will still realize a net gain in the long run, I’m not sure that they couldn’t have achieved the same gain by simply issuing a press release.
However, all PR is good… Makes no difference if it’s good or bad, so long as your product is the one that’s getting the buzz. And, Apple managed to steal everyone else’s thunder at NAB and beyond, all the way through June. And then, who knows for how long after that??? So, net, net, net, I think it will all prove to be inconsequential to each and every one of us by this time next year.

    David, you right about that.

Personally, I think i got a little carried away by the way new FCP was announced to be a ‘Jaw Dropper’. I was really hoping for something completely out of the box. And given apple’s track record, that was not too much to ask for.

However I would be very happy if this new version is solid & stable(with all the wonderful features) & Apple shows a little more evident commitment towards pro-apps.
