Does anyone know how to digitize directly from camera into final cut. I have connected my DVCAm DSR500 to the computer via firewire 400 cable, and can see the image that I’m shooting in my capture window, but when I press record on my camera to start recording to tape and try to capture at the same time, Final cut says that it has reached the end of the tape and that everything was captured successfully.

It appears to me that final cut is treating the camera merely as a deck and will not accept any footage from it unless it is already on tape versus being filmed simultaneously.

Any ideas on how to bypass this.

change the deck control to non-controllable and hit capture now.

You need to change Deck Control to UNCONTROLLED DEVICE. Otherwise FCP is trying to control the camera to shuttle the tape. Bear in mind, that doing this will NOT capture timecode. So the footage on your tape and the captured footage will not have the same timecode.

Thanks to you as well. My problem for a second there was that I thought that I needed to change this on the camera vs changing it in Final Cuts audio Video settings.
    Never-the-less. Thanks again.
