Do you have to interpret footage for slow-motion?
Raw footage – 90fps
Sequence – 29.97fpsI drop the footage into premiere, slow it down with the “speed/duration” funtion.
Will this take advantage of the 90 frames or does it cut them down to 30 as soon as I drop it into the sequence?
Do I have to interpret the footage in order to use all 90 frames for slow motion?

You need to interpret.

Interpret is not needed. I routinely drop 60p clips into 30p sequence and edit/deliver as 30p. When I apply 50% slow to any of those clips, I get silky smooth slow mo that is definitely using the 60fps source. I guess 33% in your case?
Do a simple test – apply 33% to your clip in 30p sequence. Use arrow key to move through clip one frame at a time. Is every frame unique, or do they repeat?

If the footage is interlaced, and is interpreted as progressive, horrible things can happen.
(Also on scaling footage.)So, I second the ‘yes, you need to interpret.’

The only HD format that is ever interlaced is 1080i, and so the 90fps source footage cannot be interlaced. Just saying…

Interesting. Is your 30p sequence true 30fps or is it 29.97?
My feeling was that since 90 does not divide by 29.97 evenly, that there might be an issue. Guess that may have been wrong. I don’t have any 90fps footage to test, but what you suggested should show whether it works or not.
