Firstly, sorry I’m a bit of a noob at the moment so this question may sound pretty stupid but:

Once ive imported my file (.mov) into avid it creates a .MXF file (right?), so do I need that original .mov file that I imported or could I theoretically just delete it? (I dont want to delete it but im just wondering)

I’m only thinking this because I want to move all my original .mov files onto another hardrive that I won’t have much access too, but I dont want to have to go through a re-linking process if this doesnt work.

When you import into Avid…and create MXF media…you can then remove the original files. The only time Avid references those is when they are connected via AMA.

So you can import, and then remove the drive the originals are one and put it on a shelf..archiving it.
