    Hallo,

and another AVID Question from the FCP user side of the river:
I received an OffLine Final / Export from an AVID system.
It was handed to me in three different codecs:
    1.QT Animation
    2.QT dnx
3.QT ?5? (not sure which codec exactly, the file was named 5)

Unfortunately the Animation Codec is the only one that can be read by my MAC system.
The DNX File and the other one is nor regocnized by FCP, AE or MPEG Streamclip or any other compression or transcoding software.
    Why is that?
I heard DNX is quiet a good codec, and it’s much smaller than Animation.

    Could somebody, please, explain.

    Thanx a lot.

    Greetz,

    Sascha

To view DNxHD, you need to install the codec onto your system. It can be downloaded from here:

I thought you meant to type “PHAT.” Which is a good thing.

Well, Phat you are certainly – just wanted to make sure you didn’t get it as fat in the classical sense ;-).

Does this codec make my pixels look fat?

Sorry if this is a silly suggestion, but have you downloaded the latest Avid l.e Codec package? Its free from Avid and will allow playback of DNX Qts on your mac. It will then be usable in your compression software.

From there you can probably find an equivalent pro-res setting maintain the bit-rate of the original as pro-res is essentially Apple’s version of DNX.

    Hope this is helpfull.
