DNS server questions abound… What do I need, and what could go wrong?
Hello all,
I’m desparately trying to grasp the concept of dedicated DNS hosting from my own home-based servers. I have had “the RIG” set-up and operational for over 30 days now and simply need to know what precisely is necessary to host my own DNS beyond the obvious stationairy IP address. If there is a short-form explaination of what I should research or if there is a list of products and/or software that I should expect to spend, please share it.
Ultimately, the goal is to have a dedicated client access that is loaded from our edit suite for live client reviews. We have a dedicated T3 line with almost 20 times the actual data-stream needed to run live video outward, but the dedicated DNS seems to be the key for secure access, the one thing that our current DNS service cannot guarantee.
Any points of interest or warnings with regard to this project would be most appreciated as well.Michael Munkittrick
