    Hi there,

I’m having a lot of trouble transcoding the Blackmagic .dng files I’ve been given. I’ve brought them into Premiere as image sequences- however even with playback at 1/8 quality its still very slow and jittery.

Ideally I would like to transcode the .dng files to prores. I’ve tried Media Encoder and Compressor, but both take about 5 hours per image sequence and I have 39 folders.

    Please help!

I had to transcode some of that footage a year ago and only after effects could
read them and it took all day to convert 6 seconds.

what version of premiere are you on?

what storage are you playing it from?

I thought CC 2015 could handle that
    just fine now.

    Hi Chris,

Yes Premiere 2015 can handle it- but its definitely jittery and slow at 1/8th. Luckily its a 30 second charity job edit so nothing extremely fast paced and effect heavy.

It seems crazy that it would take so long to transcode! I’ll keep searching for an alternative solution.

    Thanks,
    Kelly

Which Blackmagic camera is this? Hard drive and GPU are usually doing the most of the work.
You can also transcode with Resolve and it is doing a quick job.
