DLSR “Highest” Resolution / Workflow
Hi there. I have an Avid Support contract and they had no idea of the answer so I figured I’d ask you guys 🙂
Basically, I have D7000 footage (and some 5D), I made the HUGE mistake of originally not importing via AMA (before editing my 35 minute film) then transcoding to DNxHD36, now (apparently) I can’t unlink and relink via AMA, then transcode just the sequence to an online format. Basically, do you guys know if there’s any way to “unlink” my sequence and “relink” via AMA, then transcode? Right now I’m just using the reference clips, “batch importing” all of 600 clips so the cut stays links… which brings me to my main question…
When onlining with DLSR files (D7000 or 5D) what’s the “highest” DNxHD resolution I should use? The bitrates aren’t that huge, so isn’t 175X way overkill? I read somewhere that 115 is all I need, is that true? An Avid admin on a forum mentioned that, but I wanted a real world opinion on that. I have about 600 full files and if I do 175 when it’s not needed, then it’s a lotta wasted drive space.
Thanks!
