DLL’s at system start up
HELLO,
I am using SysInternals AutoRuns to see what is in the start up list and I see 30+ DLL’s from Vegas Pro 10 listed. I unchecked a few of them and than ran my PC for a few days and did not have any problems. However when I ran AutoRuns again the ones I unchecked were added back in. My question is, are they needed to run at system start up? If not how do I keep Vegas from adding them back to the start up? I looked in the Internal preference and could not find a clue. I am running Win 7 Pro x64. I am trying to track down why I went from 1min 20sec to 2min 40sec start up. No other programs were add in the meantime. I can live with these if I must. Thanks for any help in this matter.Dave

Vegas Pro does not add ANY files to your Windows startup. Where is SysInternals getting this information from? My registry autorun has no programs from Sony.

Thanks for your reply. Please bare with me as I am rather new to all of this. When I run AutoRuns Program Viewer it lists all programs that run at system start up.
Listed in AutoRuns:
HKLMSoftwareclassesFilter
The list is as I said about 30+ of these DLL’s and if I unchecked and delete them they are put back in. I would like to post a picture but do not know how. I do have an account at photobucket if that would help.

OK, this is your misunderstanding and perhaps an unfortunate label by the tool you are using to list them. Those are DirectX filters that are register to Windows. This is so that Windows knows what DirectX filters are installed on the system for audio applications like Sony to use. I have 120+ of these on my system from Sony, iZotope, Native Instrument, Cakewalk, Sonitus, IK Multimedia, etc.
Basically every audio application registers it’s DirectX filters with Windows. That’s how Windows works. That’s why all Window systems slow down over time. It’s a stupid design but that’s Microsoft for ya’. (…and that’s why I use Ubuntu Linux for everything I do except for my audio and video work.) 😉
Bottom line: You need these… as you buy more audio plug-ins you will collect more. Don’t delete them.
