Does anybody have any experience using DJ Compositor Toolkit elements that have (or don’t have) associated matte files. There is this DJ tutorial here:

    https://www.digitaljuice.com/djtv/detail.aspx?sid=352

which can be summarized as follows:

    1. Juicer-ed Version
1a. Render element w/ matte element from Juicer in .mov (Animation) with
    “Millions of Colors+”
1b. Use Juicer-exported file from (1a) with Alpha set to Straight (unmatted)

    2. Track Mask/Matte Technique
    2a. Add Element_Matte
    2b. Add Element
2c. Add Mask Generator (Video FX) to Element_Matte track (2a)
    2d. Make Element (2b) a child track of Element_Matte (2a)
2e. Change Element_Matte compositing mode to Multiply

    3. Matte-Only “Cheat” Technique
    3a. Add Element_Matte
3b. Add Mask Generator (Video FX) to Element_Matte track
3c. Element_Matte compositing mode remains at Source Alpha

    4. Elements w/o Matte Technique
    4a. Add Element
4b. Add Mask Generator (Video FX) to Element_Matte track (4a)
4c. Add Element new track below
    4d. Duplicate (4a) and drag below (4c)
    4e. Make (4c) a child of (4a)
4f. Change compositing of (4a) to Multiply

From the DJ tutorial, 1 is the best but it requires the creation of another .mov file. 2 is almost as good and it can be done completely in Vegas. And 4 is a good technique for those elements that do not have an associated matte element.

Does anybody have any other techniques using CTK elements?

In some circumstances, you dont have to work with mattes.
I sometimes simply set the compositing mode to Add or Screen.
Dont know why they just dont make them with an Alpha Channel.

    Tyson –

Thank you for the link. When I have a few moments I’m going to play with the elements.

They (@Digital Juice) elaborate their project in AE and then translate them to the other NLE’s. That’s what they told me during a chat session with a sales rep.
